Words Mean Things Compendium

This 6" x 9" soft cover book is a collaborative compendium of written work provided by designers in Richmond, Virginia. This compendium reflects each designer as an individual while at the same time unifying each piece as collective whole through specific stylistic limitations. Also shown is my design proposal and direction for the compendium layout. This book is available for purchase at Blurb. I served on the Prepress Team

I began by selecting a work of art from the VMFA to use as inspiration / reference. I wrote an essay about the piece and a creative piece of writing on our own.

Each team member designed their own proposal for a collaborative compendium and pitched it to the group. This is a slide from my presentation.

My Compendium proposal.

A winner was voted on and chosen by the group. That person became art director for the project and the group was broken into groups— Design Team, Compiling Team, Pre-Press Team, and Production Team. I was selected for the pre-press team.

I was responsible for reviewing a portion of the submissions to make sure they aligned with the brand standards. I then prepared those submissions on Indesign, then my team compiled them into one document and packaged the file to be sent to the Production Team for print. This is a spread from the final product.
