Typographic Shoes

This 6-week project focuses on typography. I researched "banal type," typesetting paragraphs of body copy. I explored the typefaces I chose through unconventional type manipulation, "glitching," and displayed on screen printed shoes.

The final outcome

I researched banal typefaces that are considered ugly or cliché. I used a glitching software to experiment with the form of the typeface under modification. I worked with a California screen printing shoe store called Ave Venice to print on white Vans. I worked with Ave Venice on several layouts before landing on the final shoe design.

I created a layout for screen printing shoes exhibited here. I printed this layout on an 18"x24" poster to accompany the shoes.

This project was selected to display as an installation during VCU’s Open Nite Exhibit.
